Begin your introduction with a hook that captures your reader and sets expectations for who you want your audience to ideally be. Do you want to persuade people who might be misinformed on the subject, or do you want to sway people to your side with an emotive anecdote? Then go on to set up your thesis statement, which is the single most important sentence in a persuasive essay, and the foundation of everything you will be writing.

Stem cells harvested from foetuses are just not necessary to have the medical research we need to move forward in curing disease and human ailments. Umbilical cord blood, plus research from adult stem cells, provide all the useful information we could require for research. Moving forward into the body of your essay, it might be relevant to touch on similar debates for comparison, like the one around cloning, or provide a sample of a debate between the two opposing sides.

Your argument for or against could probably use some quotes from experts, or perhaps relevant verses from the holy book of your choice. As of right now, we have barely opened the book that most needs to be read. We cannot make the needed progress with only the existing 60 stem cell lines Bush has granted federal funding for the use of! We need access to federal funding for use in more stem cell research, not just the puny 60 lines we have funding for now. We have federal funding for only 60 stem cell lines.

Give science a chance people, 60 stem cell lines are just not enough! Stanley Schmidt offers a couple of good analogies for those who are confused about which side to take in this situation: The decision will not prevent any new destruction of embryos since it happens as a routine part of the work of fertility clinics, but rather will simply prevent those embryos from contributing to the research.

Would that not be worth 4-day old embryonic cells, which we can now create without even the use of sperm? Federal funding should NOT be limited to use on only the 60 existing stem cell lines. To make progress we must provide more scientists a chance to research this promising cure-all!

Says Even Snyder of Harvard. You also added just the right amount of human touch the listing of diseases and how they effect people to get your listeners classmates and teachers interested. Newreeflady, Stanley Schmidt offers a couple of good analogies for those who are confused about which side to take in this situation: This regard for human life lost it for me. Maybe you should point out that there wont be abortion factories, and no profit will be made form the donations of embryo's.

I am not one. And the Ethicists, are they the same people for the Ethical Treatment of Animals? NewReefLady, Very good layout. However, I agree with ixbx, I would leave out the Catholics. Some may see it as a personal attack on them because they are catholic. Also, IMO i would move the Visualization part of it up to the beginning. Your speech may have a greater impact if you ask your question right away. It may get people thinking more about the positives than the negatives. Just throwing down my two pennies Corey.

The decision will not prevent any new destruction of embryos since it happens as a routine part of the work of fertility clinics, but rather will simply prevent those embryos from contributing to the research Not good enough? It comes right after the quotes.? Ethicists, I suppose meaning "pro-life" who are against this practice.

Thanks for the input: Besides, it's unfair to issue a blanket condemnation of Catholics for opposing ESCR because there are lots and lots of Catholic sellouts who don't oppose it.

Why not mention all of the Protestant, Jewish, and other non-Christian leaders who have condemned ESCR as unethical, as well as the non-religious? ESCR will peter out before long as there are ethical means of obtaining stem cells. Stand out and be remembered with Prezi, the secret weapon of great presenters.
